Modular Skid-Mounted: The drilling rig adopts a highly modular design, dividing the equipment into multiple skids such as the main skid, pump set, and base, allowing for quick installation, disassembly, and convenient relocation.
Multiple Drive Types: Depending on different needs, the ZJ30 drilling rig mainly offers two drive types: mechanical drive (diesel engine + hydraulic coupling/torque converter + chain-driven parallel gearbox) and electric drive (AC variable frequency motor). The AC variable frequency electric drive drilling rig offers higher automation, better speed regulation, and can achieve automatic drilling with constant drilling pressure.
Derrick and Base: The derrick typically adopts a K-type (front-opening) structure, low-position installation, and integral lifting and lowering, ensuring high safety. The drilling platform base comes in various forms, including box-type and rotary-lift type, providing a spacious and flat drilling surface.
Braking System: The main brake can be equipped with a hydraulic disc brake, enabling remote operation, greatly improving the driller's working conditions, and providing a foundation for automated drilling; the auxiliary brakes mostly use electromagnetic eddy current brakes or pneumatically controlled water-cooled disc brakes to ensure safety during heavy-load drilling.
Fully equipped: It can be equipped with complete solids control systems, well control systems, high-pressure manifolds, power generation rooms and other supporting facilities to meet the drilling process requirements of different customers.
Types Of Drilling Rigs
Land rigs – Rotary drilling rigs that can perform at maximum operating depth.
Submersible drilling barges – Used mainly for inland water drilling at depths of less than 20 feet and without any severe waves. These rigs are assembled on the barge, towed to the location, and sunk by flooding. Once the work is completed, water is pumped out of the barge and the unit can be moved to the next location.
Jack-up rigs – Used for water drilling at depths under 350 feet. They are supported at the bottom by metallic legs that are lowered to the bottom at the desired location. The platform is raised above the waves using hydraulic jacks.
Semisubmersible rigs – Rigs that employ huge engines to position themselves over the bore. Since they are expensive, they are used in very deep waters where resting on the bottom is not possible.
Drillships – Ships with rig equipment and an anchoring system mounted on the central turret. The ship can rotate using thrusters to face the direction of incoming waves to help dampen their motion.
Platform rigs – Self-contained rigs with all components situated on the platform, including living quarters.
Derrick: Also called a drill mast, this tall structure supports the drill string.
Mud Pump: Circulates drilling fluid (mud) to cool down the drill bit and extract cuttings from the wellbore.
Power System: Provides the energy needed to operate the rig, including generators and engines.
Rotary Table: A turntable that rotates the drill string and drill bit.
Centrifuge: Separates drilling fluids from solids to maintain the proper consistency and density of the drilling mud, ensuring efficient drilling operations.
Drawworks: A hoisting mechanism on the drilling rig that controls the lowering and lifting of the drill string, facilitating the drilling process.
Drill Bit: The cutting tool positioned at the end of the drill string used to break up rock and soil to create the wellbore.

Drill Pipe: A hollow, steel pipe that transmits drilling fluid and torque from the surface to the drill bit, enabling deep drilling operations.
Kelly Drive: A section of the drill pipe that's square or hexagonal, providing the mechanism for rotating the drill string.
Mud Tank: A large container that stores drilling fluid (mud) and circulates through the wellbore, cooling the drill bit and carrying cuttings to the surface.
Swivel: A mechanical device that allows the drill string to rotate while maintaining a fluid-tight seal, enabling the circulation of drilling fluid.
Top Drive: A motorized device that provides rotational force to the drill string from the top, enhancing drilling efficiency and safety by eliminating the need for a rotary table.
The Well Drilling Process: A Step-by-Step Overview
Site Preparation & Rig Setup
Before the well drilling rig arrives, the site must be cleared and leveled. A stable, flat area is necessary to ensure the derrick is perfectly vertical. The crew then sets up the rig, raises the mast, and prepares the drilling fluid and other essential equipment.
The Initial Bore (Spudding In)
“Spudding in” is the term for starting the hole. The first few feet are often dug with a larger diameter bit to accommodate the surface casing. This initial pipe is set and cemented in place to protect the well from surface runoff and to prevent the softer upper layers of the earth from caving in.
The Drilling Operation
With the surface casing set, the main drilling begins. The operator lowers the drill string with the appropriate bit and starts rotation. As the well drilling machine works, the driller carefully monitors gauges that show rotation speed, downward pressure, and mud pump pressure. The cuttings returning to the surface are constantly inspected to identify the type of formation being drilled. As the hole deepens, new sections of drill pipe are added to the string.
Reaching the Target & Well Development
A skilled driller knows the signs of a water-bearing formation (aquifer), such as a change in drilling speed or the type of cuttings. Once the target aquifer is penetrated to a sufficient depth, the drilling stops. The next phase is well development, which involves cleaning the borehole to prepare it for water production. This might include using high-pressure water jets, compressed air, or a surge block to flush out any fine particles and drilling mud that may be plugging the pores of the aquifer. This step significantly improves the well's yield.
Well Casing and Screen Installation
To create a permanent, stable well, a casing is installed. This is a long pipe, usually made of PVC or steel, that is lowered into the full depth of the borehole. It keeps the walls of the well from collapsing over time. In the section of the casing that sits within the aquifer, a well screen is attached. The screen has fine slots or holes that allow water to enter the well freely while keeping sand and gravel out.
Grouting and Sealing
This is a critical step for ensuring water quality. A special sealing material, like bentonite clay or a cement grout, is pumped into the annular space between the borehole wall and the outside of the well casing. This grout creates an impermeable seal that prevents contaminated surface water from traveling down the outside of the casing and entering the aquifer. Proper sealing is a hallmark of a professionally constructed well.
Installing the Pump & Finishing the Wellhead
With the well-constructed, the final step is to make it operational. A submersible pump is lowered into the well to a depth well below the static water level. At the surface, the casing is cut to its final height, and a sanitary well cap is installed to seal the wellhead from insects and contaminants. The system is then connected to the property's water lines.
Used For Of Drilling Rigs
Water Well Drilling
This is one of the most common uses of drilling equipment. By drilling into aquifers, it can provide a stable water source for agricultural irrigation, urban water supply, and rural drinking water projects.
01
Mineral Exploration
In mineral exploration projects, drilling rigs can go deep underground to obtain core samples or geological data, helping geological engineers determine the location, grade, and reserves of ore bodies. It is an important preliminary method in mine development.
02
Oil and Natural Gas Development
In the energy industry, drilling equipment is used to drill oil wells and gas wells, allowing oil and natural gas resources to be extracted from underground reservoirs. These types of rigs usually have higher power and deeper drilling capability.
